About Amoy
Amoy has long been synonymous with the very best authentic oriental cuisine ingredients, but did you know that our history can be traced back to the beginning of the 20th century?
How it all began
In 1908 Amoy’s predecessor, Tao Fa, was founded in Xiamen (Amoy) in the Fujian Province of China. Established by the Wong and Cheng families, Toa Fa predominantly produced soy sauce and milk.
The turning point in the company’s history came when their production manager, Mr Leong, resigned from Tao Fa to set up his own company, Dai Tung in direct competition.
Before long it was decided that in order to cope with other market competition, the two companies should merge. So, in 1928 they did just that; taking one Chinese character from each of the company names to form Tao Dai – meaning Amoy – the place of origin of the founding company.
It was also decided that as a result of the communist rule of China at the time, Amoy should move its entire operation to Hong Kong, which it did.
Continuing to grow
Over the following years, Amoy continued to grow its product range, reputation for quality, and operations across most of East Asia.
Despite the many changes to the company over the years, Amoy has never lost sight of its key focus; to produce the very best authentic oriental products.
